The difference a day can make...

As happy as I was and optimistic yesterday, leave it to the government to Mess it up. Last night the FDA pulled the approval for Avastin to treat Breast Cancer. There is a debate if this is the beginning of rationing because it is a very expensive drug. Granted, I don't have Breast Cancer but this gives my insurer an excuse to deny treatment. I called United HC and she said that if the FDA pulled their approval then they probably would drop the medication as well. As I understand it, Avastin has been the super drug that was really helping my tumor and preventing the blood from being able to re-route and form new vessels around the tumor. Thanks for listening guys!

  1. That's heartbreaking! Blocking the formation of blood vessels around any tumor is exactly what we need to do. I hate that insurance companies can hold back treatment like that. I hope you are able to either get on a drug trial for free or find a way to continue receiving this exciting new drug.

    Hugs to you,

  2. Thanks Deb, I am trying not to think about it too much. I have great doctors and if it is possible for me to stay on the medication, they'll make it happen. I could get grandfathered in since I am on treatment now and have had success on it. There are other drugs out there, who knows, this could end up being a blessing in the end. God has a way of turning situations upside down. There is a long history of Him doing that in my life. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers!

  5. I read an article about Avastin and the possibility of the FDA pulling it. I was really hoping it would not happen. Several women have had no luck with any other drug. So sad...the government has no business interfering in peoples healthcare. I hope your doctors can bypass it and continue treatment. You are in my prayers!
